I love Paris but I 'hate' Paris at the same time (those damn pick-pocketers... more on that later). During my short stay in Paris, I successfully fulfilled the role of being a tourist - taking pictures of EVERYTHING and making peace signs in every picture (just kidding...not really though).
If you asked me where I would want to live any where in the world, I would say, "CALIFORNIA" in a heartbeat. You thought I would say "PARIS" huh?
Well, let me tell you why.
I have lived in California for 23 years. Never have I gotten anything stolen from me. I have stayed in Paris for 6 days. I have gotten valuables stolen from me on the 2nd day of my stay. People always say to be aware of pick-pocketers but that is easier said than done. The whole event happens so quickly, you do not even realize it.
I have learned my lesson. If someone asks you, "Do you speak English" while holding a clipboard, say "NO" and walk away.
SIDE NOTE: for all the girls out there, I suggest putting your phone or other valuables (money, cards, etc.) in your bra while walking around Paris (unless you want your things to be stolen like me).
On a positive note, Paris is a amazing and beautiful. Parisians are very nice (despite American belief of Parisians as self-centered, rude, obnoxious). Remember, these people are humans too. If you treat them nicely, they will treat you nicely as well. Many of our Uber drivers in Paris were kind to give me a personal tour of their amazing city.
When in Paris, eat as much croissants, baguettes, macarons, and cheese as your heart desires. For those lactose intolerant people, make sure you bring lactase pills if you want to survive. :)
